WCW Saturday Night fades in half way through the programming. The scene is backstage, opening up to David Flair in a suit jacket, no tie. David has a somber look on his face. There's no interviewer. Just the camera and Flair. The stark quiet seems a bit odd for a wrestling event, but it grabs the attention of the viewers quickly. After a few seconds, David begins to speak.
.::David Flair::.
"Tonight I come here to do not only what I love, but what I do best. Alot of people over the years have said alot of things about me. It's been questioned whether I belong in this business, if things have been handed to me because of my name, or even the fact that I'm not six foot eight and three hundred pounds. A few weeks back, the world television title was up for grabs and in the semi finals Brock Lesnar beat me with a hand full of tights. That's right, the man that's holding the world television title right now cheated me out of that match. This is the same man all the fans are cheering. The same exact man that's playing up to the people and running my name into the ground at the same time. Well Brock, it's quite obvious to me as to what kind of person you truly are. You're the kind of guy that'll shake a man's hand to his face, and as soon as he turns around stab him in the back.
Now, you people can cheer whoever you want. That's the beauty of a free world. Brock's a hell of an athlete. He's a big man. A powerhouse, a great technical wrestler, he can do it all. There's no denying the fact that he beat out sixteen men in order to win the television title, by hook or by crook. There's no doubt of what he can do in the ring. But Brock, to have the audacity to go out in front of these fans, smile to their faces, shake their hands, give out high fives, and then to stand there and try to run me down like I'm some common piece of trash. I'm not gonna stand for it.
You stand there all smug saying that I begged Dillon for this match? No, I think you need to get your facts straight. I've never begged for anything. Everything that's come to David Flair's door step has been by the sweat of his brow. I didn't get a big scholarship for a collegiate career. I didn't get a big developmental deal to wrestle. I didn't get a big sign on bonus. What I got was a hard way to go. I've had to work and earn everything in this business the old fashion way. Something that you, nor any of these other Johnny-Come-Latelys know about!
So Brock, you can walk out in front of the fans and you can shine on in that thingyy smug attitude about how bad you're going to beat me tonight. But I want you to take a close look at those records. Yeah, it reads Brock Lesnar one, David Flair zero, but I keep coming back. It doesn't matter how hard you put me down, how much you beat on me, you're not gonna defeat me. I'll keep coming back for more, and more.
Ya see Brock, I've got alot more on the line than just losing to you. You said it yourself, you want to beat me so badly I don't get up. Beat me like I've never been beat before. Well pal, I've got news for ya. It's not like that's something I haven't heard before. But I can guarantee you one thing. I'm gonna be that thorn in your side you just can't get rid of. It doesn't matter where you go, because I'll be there.
By God, I'm half your size. But when I slap on the figure four, I'm gonna be cutting you down. The mighty oak is gonna fall. And one way or another, I'll win the war."
The scene fades back into the arena where Mike Tenay and Larry Zbysko are sitting at the broadcast table.
.::Larry Zbysko::.
"You've got to wonder Mike, this match up tonight, it's non title, if Brock doesn't back up his words...it's going to make a HUGE difference in how he's perceived as champion."
.::Mike Tenay::.
"I definately agree. David Flair hit on some key points. And I think it was pretty obvious he wasn't too happy with Lesnar's actions."
.::Larry Zybsko::.
"Well, Brock's on top of the world right now. And whether he wants to admit it or not, he sees Flair as a threat to his title. Brock made alot of comments about David being scared, not arriving and so forth. When apparently he's been in the back the whole night just watching Lesnar. And that tells me two things. Young Flair is concentrating and focused and Lesnar's worried."
.::Mike Tenay::.
"It almost felt like Brock was trying to dominate the air time. After he was out in the ring he interviewed with Hudson and Pamela Paulshock. It's almost as though Brock's trying to convince himself he's going to win."
.::Larry Zybsko::.
"It's a tough call. Like Flair said, there's no denying Lesnar's a tough kid. He's big, he's strong, and he's dominating. But Flair is the complete opposite. He's a smaller guy. He's got to get in there and look for weaknesses. And if Lesnar has any, he'll find them."
.::Mike Tenay::.
"Even though it's non title tonight, I'm looking forward to this match. Fans stay tuned, we have more coming up."
